Characterizing natural symbiont strains in field populations of the major malaria vector Anopheles gambiae in Cameroon

Symbiotic bacteria are known to play important roles in the development and competence of vector diseases. But, little information is available about the microbiota of Anopheles gambiae in Cameroon.


Here, we propose to characterize the bacteria community that compose Anopheles using barcoded Illumina sequencing of hypervariable V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA in order to identify potential  candidates for biological control.
